A vineyard in Kenepuru Sound owned by a Chicago businessman may be battered by weather and hampered by remoteness but it’s just the ticket for a South African family.

Willoughby and Laurie Roodt moved to New Zealand eight years ago, to follow Willoughby’s dream of farming here on the pastures he described as “green gold”.

After seven years farming near Cambridge, Willoughby said the move last year to manage Waitaria Bay farm for Chicago businessman Stan Simpson was allowing the couple to live out another dream.
