The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition is the second largest wine competition in the United States. It is the largest wine competition held for and by a charity, Camp Good Days and Special Times. Wines from all over the United States and across the world are judged at this competition.
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, www.fliwc.com, is one of the reasons local wineries are gaining a presence on the international wine stage.
One of the long time judges of the competition is Rochester’s own Lorraine Hems, a lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the Rochester Institute of Technology (http://www.rit.edu/cast/htm/). Ms. Hems has been with the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition since its inception.
Ms. Hems notes, “When I started in the industry over 30 years ago, it was difficult to sell local wines when most customers were only looking to purchase European or California wines. Now, thanks to competitions like the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, people locally and globally recognize this region as a quality wine producer. I’ve traveled to other continents and people are aware of our award-winning Rieslings.”
“This is a wonderful competition that supports our industry and a great charity. To be a part of the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition and watch the faces of international judges as they watch videos about or visit Camp Good Days and Special Times is priceless.”
The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition is currently accepting wine entries from all professional wineries. The competition will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 23 & 24, 2013 at the Rochester Plaza Hotel, in Downtown Rochester, NY.
